Whiskerino: Week 3 Summary

November 23rd, 2009 by Bobby

This week we introduced theme days that will continue through the rest of the beard growing contest. No KB’s yet but I’m hoping to score at least one! Wednesday we had “Work Day” which depicted a typical day at work. Thursday was “Black and White” day, I’m sure no further explanation is needed on that one. Friday was “Non-Casual Friday” so we had to dress up a little for our photo. Finally Saturday was “The Great Outdoors” but knowing me I worked all day and could not get out to snap a photo so it’s just me working… figures.

Whiskerino: Week 1 Summary

November 8th, 2009 by Bobby

The first week started off ok. In fact I’m expecting my first month to be not spectacular because my schedule is just crazy for November. None the less, I’m determined to do the best I can. Here’s is week one summary.

As you can see there are only 6 photos, thats because we’ve been in the mountains and could not get internet at all on Saturday.

Whiskerino 2009 Has Begun: Day 1

November 1st, 2009 by Bobby

Well this is the final installment of Whiskerino (as far as the curator is concerned) so if you’d like to follow, bookmark this link: http://whiskerino.org/2009/beards/marko/

I’ll try to keep posting daily pics as much as I can. This day 1 pic wasn’t what I had in mind but not much today has been going well so thought I’d keep it simple and move on.

Change, Change, Change

September 23rd, 2009 by Bobby

Seems like all you hear these days is change, change, change. Well, don’t worry, this isn’t another one of my political rants. I’m now doing those on my own blog, RubberNeckers Wanted.

Lea giving some kisses to Aubrey. But it’s been true at Casa de Marko. Aubrey is changing, switching from Baby Einstein to Elmo’s World videos. She’s given up on her pink stuffed piggie that she loved so much for an Elmo doll (Sorry Aunt Jeannie). Susan has added more hours with her job so now goes to work every day for 4 hours instead of just three. And thats mainly because I’m going to contract work with my current employer. So that means as of October 1st I’ll be going freelance with my video production.

It’s actually an exciting change. Susan and I had been talking about moving in this direction for a while now but were holding off until more work was coming in but I guess God had other plans. This is forcing me to go out and get more work. So for the past few weeks I’ve been revamping my wedding media side of the business. I’m partnering with photographer Ben De Rienzo and we’re now offering both video and photography serves with twist. Every video will have the couple’s story integrated into their video. I felt bored with doing the same kind of video with each and every wedding, even though the clients were happy with my work, I wasn’t. I knew every couple had a story so I wanted to be able to preserve that for them with their own cinema style wedding film. I even decided not to call it a wedding video, because it’s much more than that. It’s their own wedding cinema. If you want to check out the new site, take a look here!

Ah... Antigua! I’ve also been busy with the Guatemala film project with Athentikos. We had a successful trip in August and got about 95% of what we needed so we’re entering the editing and post production phase of the film. We’re also holding fund raising events in the Nashville area to raise money to help with the costs. Each of us have poured our own money into it and even with the funds we’ve raised so far, it barely scratches the surface of what’s needed. So if you can’t make it to the event, we do have a way for you to contribute online through the website so feel free to click here if you’d like to help out… we’d greatly appreciate it.

Some other news were my film team, “Fighting With Forks,” participated again in the 48 hour FIlm project here in Nashville and surprisingly, we won Best Film. We also won Best Supporting Actress for Ellen Tift’s performance as Charlene Little. We were all blown away and pleasantly surprised by the win. I was in Guatemala when I got the news. So that means that the film goes to Las Vegas to compete with the other city winners around the world, 70 cities in all. If by any chance it ranks in the top 10 films from that group, it goes to the Cannes Film festival in Paris, France. Cannes, if you don’t know, is one of the premier film festivals in the world. Getting a film shown there is very prestigious! But for now, our film is an official selection of the Nashville Film Festival and we’re pretty proud of that.

What’s that? Oh, you want to know where you can see it? Sorry about that. Click Here!

Summary of trip #2 to Guatemala

August 14th, 2009 by Bobby

It’s been easier to keep up on Facebook and twitter about the recent happenings but figured a blog is stil a good place to have more to say so if you’re not following us on Facebook or Twitter, here’s a recap of my recent trip to Guatemala.

The film team I’m a part of, Athentikos, made a second trip down with a much smaller crew to gather footage we needed to finish the documentary. Only 4 of us made the trip down and we were happy to have our local crew member Cesar join us for much of the time down there. While there we met up with some locals who also pitched in when needed, Jonathan, Diego, Pablo, Eduardo and Jeff. Special thanks to Joel, our local contact down in Guatemala City who helped with so much of the logistics.

This trips was no less full of surprises but we got most of what we needed. Of course with anything like this, changes are made and plans have to be altered but by in large, the tips has been a success. At the time of writing this, Bengy and Scott are still wrapping up gathering footage at Casa Barnabe.

As it was in January, eveyrone was very accommodating and greeted us with great hospitality. The weather was a little warmer so we had to make using sunscreen a daily routine and we still got a little red however, for Bengy, there was no change!

To see details of the trip with video podcasts and images, check out: http://athentikos.com/wordpress/

We kept a video log using our iPhones and pieced them togethe in a video podcast that you cna also find on iTunes.

Thats pretty much it, check out the website for more info. Thanks to everyone who supported us through finances and prayer. Keep a lookout for more videos formt he trip.

If Facebook is a good judge of the American population….

May 19th, 2009 by Bobby

I recently joined a Pro-Life group on Facebook. I was really surprised how many people had signed up so then I looked up groups for pro-choice. I was amazed again by the number. So I looked up another subject like the Fairness Doctrine. Again, I was amazed at the numbers for both sides.

Take a look for yourself, I pulled the largest groups representing each view:
Abortion -
Pro Life: http://is.gd/Bq2D
Pro Choice: http://is.gd/Bq2X

Fairness Doctrine -
Against: http://is.gd/Bq3y
For: http://is.gd/Bq3P

If Facebook is a good judge of the American people, President Obama needs to seriously think about his position on many topics because if he gets his way, I have a feeling he will be voting himself out of office come 2012.

What do you think?

About Susan and Bobby

We come from different up-bringings, have different tastes in movies, and have different opinions on "stuff" but what we do have the same is our passion for each other. We were friends for over a decade and now we're married for life. This is just a small glimpse of our story.
